Youth Conference '09--A Great Success!

Our first annual Youth Conference was a great success thanks to the committees, citizens and the City of Selma that collaborated to make sure that our youth and young adults were educated through this grand event.

A special thank you to the committees of Ward 4 that helped to facilitate this conference: Children & Youth, Workforce Development and Student Government.

We are excited about next year's event!

Elected School Board--The People's Choice!!

On Tuesday, April 28, 2009, 85% of the people who came out to vote on whether to change the Selma Board of Education from an appointed board to an elected one said YES!

Next, the city council will set a date for the special election of board members. Four districts have been drawn up, and there will be one member-at-large (The Chair).

Take a few moments here and tell us which issues matter most to you when selecting your candidate of choice. What will you be looking for?

Please share your thoughts so that we may continue conversation about this before and after election day! When candidates begin to announce, a voting poll will be placed in the right margin of this site. Please stay tuned...

Census 2010: Be Counted in that Number!!

It is very important that EVERY citizen in Selma-Dallas County be counted in the census.

Our lives will be affected by the numbers that we turn in! So, let's do it big this time!

Open the door! Turn it in!

The following excerpt was taken from the official website of the U. S. Census Bureau:

What is the Census?

The census is a count of everyone living in the United States every 10 years.

The census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution.

The next census is in 2010.

Your participation in the census is required by law.

It takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

Federal law protects the personal information you share during the census.

Census data are used to distribute Congressional seats to states, to make decisions about what community services to provide, and to distribute $300 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year.
